OLIVIA’S LUSH BLUSH DORM: REVEAL

Pink and blush dorm room design with tufted slipper chair and gallery wall on Thou Swell @thouswellblog

I love putting together the mood board for a room, but there’s nothing like seeing the finished product and feeling like you’ve made something perfect for your friend. Turning a temporary, cookie-cutter space into a personal retreat has been so rewarding! I’m so excited to share Olivia’s final dorm room reveal, which I completed with the incredible support of The Mine, Minted, Framebridge, and Jennifer Squires Ross. The room is totally Olivia, and seeing her at home in the new space is so satisfying! I can’t wait to show you all the details – see how the room turned out below.

The big choices I made anchor the space. I adore the tufted slipper chair totally unlike the regular dorm furniture we’re all used to. The blush bamboo throw pillow adds a touch of classic charm to the piece! Underfoot, the Paragon area rug from Mohawk Home enlightens the space and adds comfort. I kept the room elegant with Framebridge’s gold bamboo frame on a sophisticated and calming photograph from Jennifer Squires Ross right above the nightstand.

Olivia’s new bedside table has lots of room for easy storage and brings up the glam factor with shiny brass and a mirrored bottom. The chic table lamp on top adds some marble and provides some much-needed ambient lighting!

The bed was one of the main focuses in the room, and I wanted to make it as comfortable and inviting as possible! When it comes to the notorious Twin XL bed, my favorite trick is to invest in some beautiful Queen-size bedding that not only covers the bed much better but also can be used for years to come. I chose Designers Guild standard and euro shams, fringed throw pillows, and a fun decorative eye pillow for lots of comfy support.

The art prints above the bed from Minted, my favorite source for limited-edition art online, were so fun to curate. I stuck to a color story but wanted to bring variety and interest to the room and found some beautiful pieces including the “HA-HA-HA-HA” print which I chose for Olivia’s fabulous laugh! It’s the kind of piece that just makes you smile and I love that it’s right above the head of the bed. Shop all the prints in the gallery wall right here:

Finally, fleshing out the foundation of the space is a delightful selection of elevated dorm decor selections from The Mine, adding some sparkle to the details in the room, like this LED task lamp and faux succulent planter (you can hardly tell it’s not the real thing!). With the desk in front of the window, Olivia has a beautiful view over the small quad below, making it an inspiring workplace. The gorgeous ivory velvet curtains that soften the architecture also provide helpful light-blocking for getting that beauty rest.

Let me know what you love best about the room – and stay tuned for Colesy’s reveal later this week!
