One of the most striking things about living up here in Ithaca for college is that it has really made me miss the culture that I took for granted in Atlanta. I hold a lot of Southern traditions closer to my heart now that my time at home is more limited, and I definitely cherish Thanksgiving as a holiday that I can count on reconnecting me with my home and family before I return for the long haul of studying and exam season before winter break. I’m excited to share this Southern-inspired Thanksgiving table with Pier 1, inspired by some quintessential elements of Southern decor that create a warm and inviting tabletop. I spent a while in my local store pulling this look together, layering these pieces for a personal and creative table that didn’t break the bank. From wicker to marble and even a pretty chinoiserie bowl for the centerpiece, their selection is sure to inspire a beautiful table setting for your Thanksgiving (or Friendsgiving) this year! Find out how I pulled together the table and flowers from their fall harvest collections below.

When I saw the magnolia salad plates in the store, I knew they would be the inspiration for the table. With dark green and brown, they set a natural color palette that complemented my dad’s dining room perfectly. I layered them with classic white dinner plates and brought in another Southern accent, wicker, for the placemats. They also have a metallic glimmer woven in, so they added a hint of shine to the table! To top it off, solid olive green napkins and traditional silver napkin ring matched the plates perfectly.

The flower arrangement brought in traditional Southern blooms: white hydrangea, with red berries and airy eucalyptus for a pop of holiday color. I arranged them low to prevent them from blocking anyone’s vision across the table and placed them in a chinoiserie style bowl for another traditional Southern element. The blue and white looked beautiful at the center of the table and helped the bright red berries pop even more! Around the centerpiece, I placed ceramic squirrels for a whimsical touch that helped blend the creamy ceramic of the salad plates with the brighter whites on the table for an easy mix.

Bamboo flatware is certainly a perfect accent for the chinoiserie bowl, and adds another classic Southern motif that made the table sing. While they brought a traditional silhouette, the flatware’s polished finish ensured a clean look to the table. The hobnail glasses add a vintage flair to the table that fit perfectly with the theme, and the marble and wood coasters below bring a more modern finish to the look and help define each place setting on the glass-top table.
